As i've said... i started Salsa around 2mths ago. My school... Attitude Dance Studio (in short, let's call it ADS).
I actually get to know this studio through Gin as she started earlier then me... never jio me... go alone... pang seh me! .. .... ....... Ok! Enough whining... and yea i also took the instructor she recommended, Lavina aka Luv.
How i actually started... is actually kinda sudden. I've been thinking about taking on Salsa for quite some time... asked my Inside Friends to see any of them are interested.. and Lisa actually said she wanted to learn too! But she was studying then and we couldn't find any Friday class... and so we dragged.. dragged.... draaggggeeddddd........
It was only when Mel and me, together with Rik visited Azzucar @ Clarke Quay for the very 1st time when we both found out we wanted to learn Salsa and TADA!!!! A companion! And the following week... we registered and zoom! to ADS we go.
My class started with 13 peeps.. 4 guys 9 girls... let me try to name them ^^
Guys: Rick, Sean, Leon and Me (that's easy)
Girls: Jenevy, Sandra, Grace, Jasbir, Jiahui, Moonie, Tinah, Mel & 1 which i don't know her name (not that bad huh? i only missed 1 out)
And our instructor.. Luv. She's a good instructor, friendly and makes people in her class feels comfortable. Nothing much i can say about her actually... all i know is my class loves her... and she likes our class too! kekE~ Cause we're a bunch of spontaneus addicts =X
We arranged a Union Square visit on our 3rd lesson... which i will cover on a seperate post. What i wanna say here is... i love my class! We're so spontaneus~ staying back after our 1hr lesson to practice @ the empty studio for atleast another hr... Going to Union to practice + have fun 2 days per week. It was real fun~ kEke!
We finished Beginners 1 course last mth... and the Saturday class was closed as they do not have enough students to continue the class and so they joined us on the Sunday class. Therefore, our class population grows... let me count. *counting with my fingers... .... ....* We have 20 now... *faintz*
I kinda didn't like the new big class, as the studio ain't big enough to accomodate every1.. .... lemme rephrase. The studio is just nice, but not every1 can squeeze into the mirror. Looking yourself in the mirror is very important as you'll see your own style and correct whatever you think isn't nice. But since the class is too big... i normally give up the mirror spot to those who needs it more then me.
I think i've said enough here ^^ So i'll just sign off from here.
Ciao~

Dangers! on the Dancefloor
Dealing with a Crowded Dancefloor
It's a love-hate relationship whenever the dancefloor gets jam-packed with dancers. Here we have, right before our eyes, tons of dancers, but there's simply not . enough . space . to . dance .
Out of frustrations, or rather, driven to desperation, human behaviours will go rampant. I don't know about you, but I have a very strong urge to stamp my heels on everyone's cutsey little pinkie toes, watch them limp away from the dancefloor and THE DANCEFLOOR IS MINE!!! MINEEEEE!!! MINE ONLY!!! MUAHAHA!!!
... ahem... *widdle fingers* As I was saying, everyone wants a piece of the dancefloor. Like a movie, there's different colorful characters that enhance the flavour of the popcorn. If everyone took part in the following roles, the night of salsa would be a blockbuster.
Superheroes
- are very brave. They grab an unwilling victim, squeeze into the crowd and attempt to salsa within a 2cm by 2cm of the dancefloor surface.
- have super power. Such as, butt-pushing the dancers all around to create a space to dance or doing flamboyant styling in hope to wack anyone and everyone nearby.
- are very strong. They would throw partner out in an open hold and hopefully he/she slams the crowd to one side like a tsunami tidal wave.
- never say die. Depsite getting hurt in the crowded dancefloor upteen times, they will return into the battlefield with a vengence.
Victims
- are usually the first to get killed. Get major injury from a simple dance due to the lack of understanding of the hidden danger on the dancefloor.
- are best of friends with Mr. Unlucky. No matter where they are or what they are doing, dancing or standing, walking or hiding, chatting or in deep thoughts... they get wacked left, right, up, down from unidentified flying objects.
Villians
- do not like watching others enjoying themselves. So they spill water all over the dancefloor to make dancing almost impossible.
- can't dance salsa. Somewhat like a tree swaying in a storm; jiggering the butt, wave hands frantically like William Hung with their feet rooted to the ground and still managed to take up alot of dancing space because dancers avoid getting into collision with them.
Comedians
- are witty. They love shouting to the crowd, "GO HOME!" or wolf-whistle at nearby dancers.
- love playing practical jokes, such as setting off the fire alarm.
- think out of the box. They will draw a yellow line on the floor and guide the dancers not to dance beyond the yellow line.
Masterminds
- are the masters of the masters. They conduct mini salsa class in a corner.
- love to scheme. They would block off 20% of the dancefloor with a bottle of beer in hand and several big-buttocks friends.
- create a scene. They would form a fortress with a bunch of groupie and watch their salsa idols dance infront of them.
Hot Sexy Models
- loves to socialise. They are always striking up conversations with various groups of people and making new friends.
- are information center. Ask them the top 10 dancers who have sweaty palms and they can easily come up with the list in split seconds.
- make good eye candies. When can't deal with the crowded dancefloor, it's better off looking good standing beside them.
Explorers
- will investigate the club's ventilation system and explore every corners that will provide the nose a wisp of cold air.
- is game for trying new things. Perhaps pick up a new sports other than salsa, such as playing pool, throwing darts and breaking world records like gulping down 5 litres of beer in 20 secs.
Stage Props
- are always lurking in the background. They like to stand behide a pillar and watch other dancers get killed on the dancefloor.
- hardly move. They just sit by the table and watch the dancefloor.
- usually not found in the scene. They can't figure out a way to walk into the club and through the dancefloor without being smashed into pieces.
- are, sadly, not noticable. No one knew they exist. "I was dancing last night..." "You were there last night?!?!?"

Salsa!
Yoz yoZ!
Lemme touch on salsa!!!!! kEke~
For those who have no idea what salsa is... it is NOT the sauce you dip your Nachos with! It is a dance... originated from Cuba and goes along with Latin songs... And i've picked up Salsa say... 2mths+ i think. And i'm finishing my Beginners course soon.
Salsa is a partner dance... a Male and a Female. But as you advance.. i'm sure if you're interested, you can pick up the opposite sex steps and duties, as i've seen guys dance with guys and girls with girls too ^^
I said "duties"... cause apparently the guys have the duty to LEAD the girls into the moves and also the duty to look out for "dangers" on the dancefloor... I'll come to the dangers later. Like i said, Salsa is a partner dance... and to be more detailed... it's a Male Lead, Female Follow dance. Which means, the Male will have to lead the Females into the turns, spins or whatever. And the Female's job is just to follow the Male's lead and LOOK NICE! haha.. So throughout the dance, you'll see the Female turn and spin alot while the Males are just there making them turn and spin... Oh... there's 1 more duty for the Males... which is to make the Females look good when they dance ^^
Dangers on the dancefloor! There's actually a blog which will describe these "dangers" very comically. But i'm sure the blog is abandoned cause the last post was like... LAST YR! So maybe i'll just copy and paste ya? ;D But because the post is rather long... I'll paste it on a seperate post ^^
And finally, where do we dance!? There're actually a few places and definitely more which i don't know of... But my group of Salseros maniacs visits Union Square Club @ Amara Hotel most oftenly... and recently we discovered Azzucar @ Clarke Quay. There's CubanLibre(Clarke Quay), Modiva(St James), Thumper(Wednesdays only @ Goodwood Park Hotel), Xenbar(dunno where) and Jitterbugs(Millenia Walk). That's about all i know... But still prefers Union on Tues/Wed and Azzucar on Fri ^^
I'm taking my Salsa classes @ Attitude Dance Studio. I'll post about it on a seperate post as this is already too long... so i'll just sign off here ^^
